Empathy Into Action Award header

The EG SPEAKS: Empathy into Action Award honors school and community members who demonstrate what it truly means to practice inclusion by centering disabled youth. This recognition is grounded in disability justice and celebrates individuals and groups whose actions (not just intentions) create more accessible, affirming, and equitable spaces for disabled students and young people.

Criteria

Nominees may have any of the following qualities:

  • Centers Disabled and Neurodivergent Voices: Actively uplifts and prioritizes the perspectives and needs of disabled students, families, and community members.
  • Demonstrates Inclusive Practice: Implements concrete actions that promote accessibility, belonging, and equitable participation.
  • Advocates for Equity: Challenges ableism and systemic barriers within schools or the community.
  • Builds Community: Fosters relationships, collaboration, and a culture of respect and belonging.
  • Impact and Sustainability: Shows measurable or meaningful impact and a commitment to ongoing inclusive practices.

Nomination and Selection Process

  • Complete the linked google form.
  • Don’t forget to include contact infomation for the nominee!
  • A committee comprised of diverse community members with lived experience will review nominations.
  • Recipients will be contacted by a representative of the committee by April 15th.
  • Awards will be presented at our Golden Hour Gala on Thursday, May 7th 2026.
  • All recipients will receive a free ticket and a plus 1 to the Golden Hour Gala.
