EG SPEAKS Recognized at California State Assembly for Advocacy in Special Education

Sacramento, CA – March 21, 2025 – EG SPEAKS, a nonprofit organization dedicated to advocating for students in special education, was honored to be invited to the California State Assembly by Assemblymember Stephanie Nguyen in recognition of HR 24, which officially designates March as Developmental Disability Awareness Month.

The invitation was a testament to EG SPEAKS’ ongoing commitment to raising awareness and creating an inclusive educational environment for students with developmental disabilities. The organization has long been a passionate advocate for equal opportunities, resources, and support for students with special needs, striving to amplify their voices and ensure they are seen, heard, and empowered.

Assemblymember Stephanie Nguyen introduced HR 24 to acknowledge the importance of understanding developmental disabilities and the vital role that inclusive education plays in the lives of students across the state. Sharing her deeply emotional personal story with her daughter and her classmates by her side on the Assembly floor, Assemblymember Nguyen received unanimous and bipartisan support. The resolution calls for greater awareness and understanding, promoting a more supportive and inclusive community for individuals with disabilities.

“We are incredibly honored to be a part of this occasion, and to have had an opportunity to share our concerns for special education funding directly with Gavin Newsom.” said Amanda Scott, President and CEO of EG SPEAKS. “March is a month to celebrate the incredible strengths, talents, and potential of students with developmental disabilities. We are grateful to Assemblymember Nguyen for recognizing the importance of this cause and for giving EG SPEAKS the opportunity to be a part of this important dialogue.”

As a nonprofit focused on empowering families, educators, and students in the special education community, EG SPEAKS works tirelessly to provide resources, training, and advocacy to ensure that students with developmental disabilities receive the support they need to thrive. The organization is committed to breaking down barriers, raising public awareness, and improving educational policies to promote equity and inclusion for all students.

This recognition serves as a powerful reminder of the ongoing work needed to improve educational outcomes for students with developmental disabilities and to ensure they have the opportunities they deserve.
